When we talk about “fitness” we seem to always assume an unspoken prefix of “physical”. Yet clearly “mental fitness” is just as important and in many instances overlapping, as you note wrt exercise, insulin and brain volume. Does FitCult also intend to cover mental exercise and fitness trends and info? (Eg “Does “Wordle”help train your brain?”)
As a super fan of Wordle, that sounds like a great topic for a future essay! Certainly, fitness culture encompasses more than physical movement so mental fitness is an interesting area to unpack and something I may start doing more of as I come across interesting research. The piece on meditation and memory from a few weeks ago was one such study.
