In this article from The Conversation, authors Paul McGreevy and Bidda Jones argue that it’s time to rethink whipping in horse races. They note that the traditional view of the whip is that “striking horses with a partially padded rod is in their interest, like making your children eat their vegetables.” But, the research into how horses experience whipping “reveals a different story.”
